LCHS Coach Not Rehired

Lenoir City's head boy's basketball coach will not be rehired. Sources report that Williams was informed Friday that he would not be rehired for a forth year which would have given him tenure with the school.. After rumors surfaced that Williams was not going to be rehired, dozens and dozens of parents and students rallied to show support for the coach. More than a hundred attended a meeting with the school's superintendent, Wayne Miller, to voice their support for Mr. Williams. All board members were contacted and asked to support the the rehiring of Williams. Reports are that up on learning that he would not be retained, Coach Tony Williams resigned.

This is not the first controversial dismissal by the school board and the superintendent. In 2001, then Football Coach Barry Liles was dismissed in the same manner as Williams. With hundreds of supporters in attendance, Liles was also not rehired after his third year with the school.
