Vape Bust

From The 9th Judicial Drug Task Force

This morning, the 9th Judicial Drug Task Force — with key support from our partners at the Loudon City Police Department, Lenoir City Police Department, National Guard Counter Drug Unit, and the Dangerous Drugs Task Force — executed search warrants at two vape retailers: 95 Mart in Lenoir City and Tobacco Outlet in Loudon City.

Why? Because vape pens aren’t just blowing smoke anymore.

Over the past few months, we’ve seen a growing number of high-THC and nicotine vapes showing up where they don’t belong — in the hands of underage users and inside local schools. Undercover agents made controlled purchases at these stores, and when tested, the results were loud and clear: most THC products contained well over the legal limit of 0.3% Delta-9 THC. Some were measured at over 50% Delta-9 THC!

The two stores with the most egregious violations, were also the closest to area high schools — a detail that didn’t go unnoticed.

The result? Agents seized 109.4 pounds of THC products, including vape cartridges, flower, and hand-rolled joints. No arrests have been made at this time, and we want to acknowledge that both store owners and staff were cooperative and accommodating. In many cases, the problem appears to be false labeling by a some manufacturers or distributors — a reminder that what’s on the package isn’t always what’s inside.

Now, to those asking, “Why focus on this? It’s just weed.” — fair question. But when mislabeled, high-potency THC products are being sold near schools and landing in the backpacks of teenagers, it’s not just about marijuana — it’s about protecting youth and ensuring transparency in what’s being sold in our communities.

This investigation is ongoing, both here in Loudon County and throughout the 9th Judicial District. A multi-agency team comprised of members from the 9th District Attorney General’s Office, Loudon Police Department, Lenoir City Police Department, the National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, and federal partners.

Stay tuned. We’re just getting started.
