Loudon and Knoxville Duo caught in possession of drugs after speeding

Two East Tennessee women are facing drug charges after being pulled over for speeding passing through Loudon County.

On Sunday April 14, State Trooper Jesse Scarbrough was stationed on the right shoulder of I-75 northbound running rear radar at mile marker 73.

Scarbrough observed a white Ford Explorer in the left lane traveling 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. Trooper Scarbrough activated his emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop.
Upon initial approach to the passenger side, Scarbrough observed two females in the vehicle. The arrest report states that he also observed a strong and obvious odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

He asked the driver for her driver’s license and vehicle documents. The driver said she did not have her ID on her and could not provide proof of insurance at the time of the stop.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Laura Worthington of Knoxville. The passenger also said she did not have her ID and was identified as 29-year-old, Brook Worley of Loudon.

Upon records check, it was revealed that Worthington was driving on a suspended driver’s license. Scarborough instructed both occupants of the vehicle to exit.

The arrest report states that Worthington gave Scarborough consent to search the stopped vehicle.

During the investigation, the trooper discovered a small teal backpack that was located on the passenger floorboard, along with seven plastic baggies with a white powdered crystal substance believed to be meth. In addition, he found a paper folded with the same substance inside, weighing approximately 13.5 grams, 11 ecstasy pills, and three plastic baggies with marijuana weighing approximately 4.1 grams.
