Youngsters find body of woman under bridge

LOUDON - Explorer scouts found the body of a woman under a bridge Monday night, just 100 yards from the Loudon police station, authorities said.

Loudon Police Chief James "Bear" Webb said that the badly decomposed body of a middle-aged white woman was found at about 7:20 p.m. under the John J. Duncan Bridge. The bridge crosses the Tennessee River on U.S. Highway 11.

The Explorers had completed a training session and were waiting for their parents to pick them up outside the police and fire station when several decided to go down to the river, Webb said.

"They were looking around the rocks under the bridge, about a hundred yards from the police station, when they found the body," Webb said.

The body was taken to the Knox County Medical Examiners office and is awaiting autopsy and identification.
