Woman charged with evading, indecent exposure

A Knoxville woman is facing numerous charges stemming from an incident in which a vehicle hit the Interstate 75 bridge and was reportedly swerving on the roadway.

Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy J.C. Schultz stopped a white Buick LeSabre at mile marker 79 and spoke with the driver, Maricia Alamae Scroggs, 45, Knoxville, who displayed signs of intoxication and was having trouble following instructions, according to the report.

After getting arrested for driving under the influence, Scroggs slipped off her handcuffs, pulled down her pants in the back seat of the patrol car and urinated in the car “in plain view of the public on the roadway,” Schultz wrote in the report.

During a search of Scroggs' vehicle, the deputy found inside the glovebox a glass pipe with white residue, a Chore Boy pad and a bronze push rod commonly used in drug consumption, according to the report.

Scroggs was charged with driving under the influence, evading arrest, indecent exposure, possession of drug paraphernalia and leaving the scene of an accident/property damage and held on $20,000 bond.

Single-car wreck leads to drug arrest

An Oliver Springs woman was taken to Loudon County Jail on Sunday after police responded to a call of a possible wreck at Steekee Road and Highway 72 in Loudon.

Loudon Police Officer Brandon Nix found a silver Honda sitting in a ditch by the side of the road. He spoke with a driver, Amanda Nicole Hooper, 32, Oliver Springs, who appeared anxious and was “stuttering, and shaking,” Nix wrote in the arrest report.

During a line of questioning, Hooper told police she had “ice” in her possession and removed a small baggy containing a white, crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine.

While searching Hooper's purse, police also found two hypodermic needles, and one of the needles contained a “clear liquid,” Nix wrote. Inside a bottle of ibuprofen was located two white pills that were later identified as 2 mg Xanax.

Hooper was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule II substance and possession of a Schedule IV substance and released on $8,000 bond.
