Why So Surprised?

It's a little puzzling why suddenly so many seem to be so surprised and upset by the antics of Loudon County Mayor, Doyle Arp. Whether it's because of he kept so many from attending a recent commission meeting or because he tried to slip himself a huge raise or one of his many other acts of disrespect he has shown to the citizens of Loudon County. This is who Arp is. It was no different when he was the property assessor. But more on that at a later date.

Mr. Arp is driven and motivated by one overriding passion, personal greed. He will stop at nothing to enhance his personal wealth and that of his family and close friends at the cost of the Loudon County tax payers. In fact just about every member of Arp's immediate family currently draw a check from the county. In all fairness, this is not new for Arp, this is how he has always been. And if we are to believe the outcome of the 2006 election, this is what the voters of Loudon county wanted. Arp won the election handily. So surely the voters wanted a man like Arp in the mayor's office.

The sad part of the story is, there is nothing, not one thing, average citizens can do about it and Arp is well aware of that. Fact is, of the forty-two thousand residents in the county, there are only ten people who can put a stop to Arp's mad dash for county cash, and that's the county commission. However for whatever reason they have allowed Arp virtually free rein to do as he pleases. He spent thousands locking down and installing video surveillance at the county building. Spent $50,000.00 of tax payer money in a failed attempt to keep the public out of public records. Spent by all accounts $300,000.00 to remodel his office and the county building and now we find out the new addition can only accommodate 15-20 citizens and on and on and on.

Unfortunately for the county tax payer, we are stuck with Arp for at least two more years and you can bet things will get worse before they get better.
