When is
Tennessee’s tax-free weekend and what can I buy?
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday weekend will take place at the end of July, offering shoppers the chance to stock up school supplies and other items at reduced prices.
The tax-free
weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 25
and conclude at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.
Clothing, school supplies, and computers can be
purchased tax-free during this period with certain
restrictions. And yes, qualifying items sold online
are also tax-exempt.
ClothingApparel items like shirts, parents, jackets, shoes, and dresses that cost $100 or less per item will be tax exempt during this period. Items like accessories, jewelry, handbags, and sports equipment are still taxable. School suppliesSchool and art supplies with a purchase price of $100 or less per item won’t be taxed. Eligible items include binders, backpacks, crayons, pens, pencils, rulers and art supplies like paints, drawing pads, clay, and paintbrushes. School and art supplies individually priced at more than $100 are not exempt and items that are normally sold together can not be split to stay beneath the $100 threshold. ComputersPersonal use computers with a purchase price under $1,500 will be tax exempt, as well as laptops and tablets. Items like flash drives, individually purchased software, and printer supplies do not qualify for the sales tax holiday. |
