Virginia men arrested after begging for cash

Two Virginia men are facing theft charges after Loudon officers were called to a parking lot for three males begging for money.
After arriving at the parking lot, Loudon Police Officer Jeffery Russell noticed a Dodge Charger leaving a gas station nearby that matched the description of a vehicle connected to the beggars. The vehicle pulled over a half-mile after Russell initiated a traffic stop.}

No one in the vehicle could provide identification, and none of the names given matched the vehicle’s owner. One person inside the vehicle was a 13-year-old boy reported missing from New York state. Others were Ethan Marcelez Remairez and Dalante Andrew Lavine, both of Richmond, Va.

“Mr. Levine admitted to picking up the juvenile at Penn Station in New York,” Russell wrote in his report. “The store manager at (the gas station) stated that two of the individuals came into the store (Lavine and Remairez) and attempted to put two phone chargers under Lavine’s shirt. He confronted them and they gave him the chargers and left.”

Local law enforcement contacted campus police at Virginia Union University in Richmond and determined the 2014 Dodge Charger was reported stolen from the school. Remairez admitted taking the car without the owner’s consent, according to the report.

More information on the juvenile was unavailable before News-Herald presstime.

Lavine, 28, was charged with joyriding and theft of property and held on $10,000 bond. Remairez, 22, was charged with theft of property and theft of an automobile and held on $8,000 bond.
