Two killed in I-40 crash in Loudon County
 
LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WATE) — Two people died in a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that shut down I-40 east and west near I-75, said the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.
The two people who died were in the same vehicle. A dog was also rescued from this vehicle and is recovering at the Roane County Animal Shelter. In addition, a man who was pinned in a separate vehicle was taken to UT Medical Center by a Lifestar helicopter.

The crash occurred near mile marker 367. According to TDOT’s SmartWay map, the crash was reported around 12:10 p.m. on Monday.
 
On Monday, LCSO reported that the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Loudon County Fire/Rescue, Priority Ambulance Service, TDOT, and other first responders were on the scene, working to free a trapped victim.
 
All lanes of I-40 were back open as of 4:15 p.m. on Monday after several hours of closures, Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Mark Nagi said.
