TVA spilling at Tellico Dam

wbir.com-TVA is spilling at another dam in East Tennessee to avoid flooding and allow navigation on the Tennessee River.

This time it's happening at Tellico Dam down in Loudon County.

TVA says it's bracing for more rain this week by spilling at the dam.

After a wet start to the year, TVA has been spilling at several dams to help bring lake levels back down. Workers say rainfall in January was 220% higher than normal

While they're focused on the immediate future, officials say they're also looking down the road for spring.

"Right now we're still in the midst of battling rainfall and flood control. We are looking forward and looking out as we always are at filling the reservoirs. We know it's an important part of recreation," said Tom Barnett, the manager of the River Forecast Center

Barnett says TVA will not begin filling the lake for summer levels until the middle of next month.

If the rain continues, he says the lakes could just fill naturally.
