TVA replacing sand baskets along

(WBIR - Loudon County) The Tennessee Valley Authority announced it will begin work on a more permanent solution to flood control than the sand baskets it currently uses.

TVA officials said Friday they will replace the nearly 100 sand baskets with an extended concrete wall just north of the Tellico Village boat ramp around Fort Loudoun Dam and Tellico Lake. The wall will be about two miles south of the Fort Loudoun Dam on Tellico Parkway, and when done, will be about 500 feet long.

Officials say the impact of the project will be minimal on travelers, but that there will be a lower speed limit to 40 miles per hour in the construction zone.

The TVA said it expects the project to be completed by mid-June.
