THP: 16-year-old dies in collision with deer on Hwy 11 in Loudon Co.

One person is dead following a head-on collision in Loudon County that occurred after a driver lost control of his car after hitting a deer Friday night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Jose Sanchez, 16, of Loudon, died after the car he was riding in was hit head-on by a vehicle headed south on U.S. Highway 11 near Natalie Boulevard at around 11:18 p.m.

Sanchez was riding with Jason Hartline, 32, of Lenoir City, when a car driven by Diago Zavala, 17, of Loudon, lost control after striking a deer and crossed over into the northbound lane. Hartline and Zavala were injured in the incident.

THP is reporting that Sanchez was the only individual involved not wearing a seat belt, which the responding officer indicated could have made a difference in the incident. No criminal charges have been filed, and an incident report indicates that neither driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
