Sweetwater man jailed on drug charges

A Sweetwater man is facing drug charges after law enforcement began looking for someone involved in a Roane County incident.
Dispatch on Sunday told Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tony Branson that Junior Adam Marcum was driving a white pickup truck to Huntsville Hollow Road. Branson saw the truck at a stop sign and conducted a traffic stop after seeing white light from the brake lights.

Marcum informed Branson he did not have his driver’s license, but he knew his number. Dispatch showed the license came back revoked.

“Deputy (Austin) Parton asked Mr. Marcum if he would care to empty his pockets,” Branson wrote in a report. “He stated that he would. As he was doing this, there was a clear bag with white residue and a red folded up piece of paper containing white powdered substance believe to be phenergan.”

Further investigation found 3.6 grams of marijuana, 0.1 gram of a brown substance believed to be heroin, six gabapentin, half a suboxone, one scale and a glass pipe found in the back seat floorboard between two juveniles.

The mother was notified to pick up three juveniles. After Marcum was transported to jail, deputies found 3.3 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Marcum, 36, was charged with manufacture, sell, delivery or resale of a Schedule II substance, manufacture, sell, delivery or resale of a Schedule I substance, manufacture, sell, delivery or resale of a Schedule VI substance, two counts of contraband in a penal institution, possession of legend drugs, driving on a revoked/suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia and held on $138,000 bond.

Body found in county

The body of a missing Knoxville man was found Saturday by Tennessee Highway Patrol along Interstate 75 near Philadelphia.
“Our patrol division and our criminal investigation division detectives responded to secure the scene and began a death investigation,” Tim Guider, Loudon County sheriff, said.

The body was transported to the Knox County Regional Forensics Center where an autopsy determined it was Stephen Michael Worthington, 36, who had been reported missing from Knox County several weeks ago.

Sgt. Det. Charlie Cosner, lead investigator, confirmed he had been in contact with both the next of kin and the Knoxville Police Department, according to a release from LCSO.
