Student to be punished after "flippant" comment led to scare

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Lenoir City High School was made aware of a reported hit list Friday afternoon which proved untrue. School resource officers also investigated an alleged threat. The two incidents were entirely separate, school officials believe.

Superintendent Jeanne Barker explained that multiple members of the staff as well as the two school resource officers investigated this. She said the claims about the hit list were untrue and investigators could find no evidence to support it.

In regard to the alleged threat, Barker said a student made a "flippant" statement and the student will be punished fully. Barker said the safety of her students is of the upmost priority.
