For several years now, there has been a constant debate pertaining to school overcrowding, shortage of funding and the need to build new school buildings. The Loudon County Board of Education has continuously requested more and more money to operate the nine schools in the system. In 2005 a property tax increase was imposed on the residents of the county primarily to provide more funding to the schools. Even more recently, the Loudon County Board of Education has released estimates that in the very short term, there would be the need to build five new schools at a projected cost of $115,000,000.00.
