Right Hand Man 2

Last week I reported about Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens plan to cut the pay of the city judge over 90%, Right Hand Man. I told you about the letter that was sent out to all the judge candidates. I did get one fact wrong, the mayor intends to cut the judges pay from $75,000.00 to $7,200.00. I think in last week's story I said the mayor was going to cut the pay to $7,500.00.

The letter states that the mayor and council have instructed her, Ms. Kelso, to let the candidates know of the planned pay cut. Of course we all know, the council has no say in anything. Mayor Aikens makes all the decisions for all the council persons.

Below is the letter.

City attorney, Greg Harrison has already taken in about $9,500.00 in campaign contributions, mostly from Knoxville attorneys. But there are a couple of other notable contributions. Loudon businessman, Ken Brewster who holds millions in Lenoir City/LCUB contracts, gave Harrison $1,500.00 and not surprising, mayor Aikens gave him $1,000.00. Oddly enough, the only campaign expenditure Harrison shows through March was $1,000.00 to reimburse Tony Aikens for his campaign contribution. I can only assume that after Aikens made the $1,000.00 donation to Harrison, one or both of them decided the contribution might look bad so Harrison gave it back? Maybe, I guess?

Harrison's current city attorney salary is $60,104.00. If elected, will he get to keep his $60,104.00 salary and receive the $7,200.00 judges pay? If Harrison were to win the election, would mayor Aikens reinstate the current $75,000.00 judges salary and give it to him on top of his current $60,104.00 salary? Anybody care to take a guess?

Remember, Mr. Harrison does not live in the city and will not even be able to vote for himself. Will city voters vote for a candidate that can't even vote for himself? We'll see.
