Rain Tax Repeal?

With the results of Tuesday's election in Lenoir City, the Rain Tax should be well on it's way to repeal or at least half way. Newly elected councilman, James Brandon ran on repealing the Rain Tax and won. Incumbent, Buddy Hines, put out a robo-call to city voters just days before the election saying it was time to review the rain Tax to see if it was right for the citizens and churches of Lenoir City. Mr. Hines was re-elected with a strong margin likely based on his call for the review. Now former councilman, I understand Mr. Henline took issue with Mr. Hines robo-call. Henline is now out. Current councilman, Bobby Johnson Sr. was the only councilman to actually vote against the Rain Tax last year when it was past. So that's three of six that would or should vote to repeal the Rain Tax.

Hopefully, at least one more or even better, all of the council will now come to their senses and understand it's time to repeal, what is one of the most egregious and dishonest tax hikes ever placed on the citizens of Lenoir City. If not, another election will be rolling around in just two years and if the good people of Lenoir City are still seeing the Rain Tax on their utility bills, I suspect more changes will be on the way.

We'll all be watching.
