PUD's DOA,
The Final Nail

After more than two decades, the final nail was driven into the coffin of PUD's, Planned Unit Developments in the county. Brief history, PUD's were a zoning option that allowed developers higher density than the standard residential zoning.

At last week's county commission meeting, county commissioners voted unanimously to remove all language from all Loudon County zoning regulations that pertained to PUD's. This now means that the highest residential density for all of Loudon County, outside the cities, is two homes per acre. No exceptions. This will prevent Loudon County from becoming another Hardin Valley, Farragut, North Shore or even Lenoir City. This vote will go a long way in preserving Loudon County's scenic beauty and rural atmosphere.

Even the most vocal supporter of developers and massive overdevelopment, Julia Hurley, voted for the PUD elimination. I'm confident she had no idea what she was voting for, since she didn't attend the previous workshop, but she voted for it anyway.

More zoning changes coming.
