Public Hearing

Tonight, 6/22, the Loudon County Commission budget committee will be holding a public hearing on the proposed 2020-2021 county budget. The meeting will be held at the Loudon County Courthouse Annex at 6:00 pm.

This is the opportunity for the public to give input on the proposed budget. The current proposal for the entire budget is more than 70 million dollars. This included 21.5 million dollars for the general fund and 41.6 million dollars for Loudon County Schools. Significant cuts of nearly a half million dollars were made in the county general fund.  No property tax increase is proposed.

The current proposal includes a 2% raise across the board for all fulltime employees with at least one year employment and all fulltime, part time employees. If approved by the full commission on June 29th, the budget will have a 1.7 million dollar deficit which will come from the fund balance. The proposed budget currently does not provide any new money for the school system. If the school board request of an additional $320,000.00 for a 1% raise for school employees is approved, the deficit will increase to 2 million dollars.

The final vote on the budget will be June 29th, 5:00 pm at the Courthouse Annex.
