The Price Of Spite-$425,000.00

I asked last week, what was the price the Loudon County Board Of Education would be willing to pay to get rid of director of schools, Jason Vance. Now we know, $425,000.00.

The board voted 8-2 to accept the mediation agreement between the board and Mr. Vance. Gary Ubben and Zack Cusick were the loan no votes.

Last week, the board, represented by Bobby Johnson Jr. and board attorney, Chris McCarty, entered into mediation with Mr. Vance to see if terms could be reached to buy out the remainder of his three year contract. The mediation lasted about 10 hours. The final agreement, approved by all parties, was to pay Vance $425,000.00 over the next three years. $50,000.00 of that will come from the form of a lump sum from the board insurance company and $375,000.00 will be paid by the board. The $375,000.00 will be paid in equal installments, approximately $10,400.00, for 36 months.

The agreement also includes that Mr. Vance will resign from the system effective, July 18, 2019. The board also agreed to write a letter of recommendation for Vance and both parties agree not to be disparaging toward each other and Vance's record will be clean.

Jason Vance's statement:

“I felt it was in the best interest of all concerned that I resign.

I am glad the Board and I were able to reach mutually satisfactory terms for my resignation.

I wish Loudon County Schools the best going forward and hope that they continue my goal of always putting students first.”
