Pit bull "stepmom" now at shelter, available for adoption | UPDATE

wvlt.com-When an abandoned pit bull was dumped at a local shelter, it was obvious something was missing - her puppies. But that changed when a littler of five orphaned puppies showed up.

Now, Mia the pit bull is the proud step mom of five terriers.

The litter showed up at the Loudon County shelter and workers there were scared the puppies wouldn't make it without milk. Mia had plenty and started nursing.

Now, at 8-weeks old, the puppies are ready to be adopted.

"it was a lucky coincidence that she was there and that she took to them and became their step mom and gave them a chance at life," said Amy Buttry with the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.

If you are interested in adopting Mia or the puppies, they are at the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley. It's open Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. It's closed on Mondays. The shelter is located on 6717 Kingston Pike.

You can also call the shelter's adoption center at 865-573-9675.
