Philly man charged with drugs, DUI

A man was taken into custody on drug and driving under the influence charges after deputies responded to the scene of a two-car wreck Thanksgiving Day in Philadelphia.

Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy J.C. Schultz arrived at Sunnyside Road and Reed Springs Road and spoke with a woman, who told Schultz that she had followed a white Toyota truck that was swerving on the roadway, according to the arrest report. The woman told Schultz she saw the pickup hit a 2001 silver Ford Focus at the intersection.

Schultz found the driver of the truck, identified as James Stevie Harrison, 57, Philadelphia, sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle with four empty Jim Beam bottles, an empty Budweiser container and a bottle of “hydro/acetaminophen” beside him in the truck, Schultz wrote.

When asked how much he had to drink, Harrison said “too much,” according to the arrest report.

“Mr. Harrison also stated to 'just take him to jail' because he knew he had done wrong by driving and drinking,” Schultz wrote.
Harrison was unable to perform field sobriety tests and agreed to a blood draw.

Harrison told police that they would “find alcohol, pills, marijuana and cocaine in his blood work,” Schultz wrote, noting that Harrison also admitted to having a “small quantity” of marijuana over his visor in the vehicle.

Deputies found one-eighth ounce bag of cocaine and 1 gram of marijuana cigarettes, according to the arrest report.

“Mr. Harrison stated that the marijuana and cocaine had been used by him at a party were he also consumed the bourbon,” Schultz wrote.
Harrison was charged with driving under the influence, manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance and simple possession/casual exchange and released on $23,000 bond.
