Philadelphia man pummels power pole

A Philadelphia man was arrested Friday after hitting a power pole and leaving the scene.
Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chase Lane was dispatched to Stallcup Road to investigate reports of a wreck with no injury. A caller told dispatch they heard a car hit a power pole before driving away, according to a report.
At the scene, Lane found glass, articles of clothing and gray car parts.

He saw a gray car stopped in a driveway on Stallcup Road that had extensive damage on the driver’s side, all airbags deployed and back windows shattered. There was grass and mud on the car consistent with the scene of the accident. Lane also found a loaded handgun in the backseat of the car, according to a report.

Lane met a man at the residence and asked whose car was sitting in the driveway. The man told Lane the car belongs to Christopher Joe Wheat, 32, who was inside the home.
Wheat told Lane he’s not sure what happened to his car. He was unstable on his feet and smelled of alcohol. Wheat resisted arrest and a taser was deployed to subdue him.
The man at the residence told Lane he and Wheat were at a bar in Knoxville, and he asked Wheat not to drive because he was intoxicated.
Wheat was charged with vandalism, resisting arrest, possession of a handgun while under the influence, leaving the scene of accident with property damage, immediate notice of accident, driving under the influence, violation of implied consent and driving on roadways laned for traffic and released on $4,000 bond.
Man, teen arrested after speedingTwo teen boys and a man were found drunk in a car Thursday after being pulled over for speeding.
Loudon Police Officer Christopher Law saw a silver Dodge sedan traveling 37 mph in a 30 mph zone on Mulberry Street. Law stopped the car and identified three people inside.
The owner of the vehicle, Matthew Alan Babin, 21, Lenoir City, was in the backseat with Julian Alejandro Zavala, 19, Lenoir City. Another teen was also in the car.
Law asked Babin, who had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet, to step out of the vehicle. Babin said he had consumed several alcoholic beverages. Law found a half-empty 750 ml bottle of Svedka vodka in the car.
Babin told Law he bought the vodka for he and his friends to drink. Both teens corroborated Babin’s story.
Zavala said he had several beers despite being underage. Law wrote Zavala and the other teen a citation for underage consumption and told them they were free to leave. Zavala asked Law if he could go to the restroom in the parking lot. Law told Zavala, “No,” but Zavala urinated in the parking lot anyway as Law was detaining Babin.
Babin was charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and released on $2,000 bond.
Zavala was charged with underage consumption and indecent exposure and released on $4,000 bond.
