Parents arrested for child neglect

A couple from Lenoir City was taken to Loudon County Jail on child abuse charges stemming from a domestic dispute early Sunday morning.

Dispatched to the site of an argument in the 6300 block of Industrial Park Drive, Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kevin Dailey arrived to find an unattended 2-year-old child in a green Saturn Vue with the windows down and the keys in the ignition, according to the arrest report.

The child's mother, Ashley Anna Wilson, 25, Lenoir City, and father, Michael Paul Sonnier, 40, Lenoir City, had been arguing inside the apartment and both appeared to be under the influence, Dailey wrote in the report.

"They continued to stumble around the apartment while the father stated he did not know what county he was in, as well as stating the apartment was actually a hotel room," Dailey wrote. "Mrs. Wilson stated she had driven her daughter around the block to get her to go to sleep."
The mother appeared confused, and the couple said they were not under the influence of anything illegal and agreed to take field sobriety tests, according to police. The couple performed poorly on the sobriety checks.

The child was turned over to the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.

During the sobriety tests, a small baggie with half a Xanax bar was found in Sonnier's shoe, Dailey wrote. Sonnier said the medicine belonged to him, but he did not have a prescription.

Sonnier was charged with child abuse or neglect and simple possession and held without bond.

Wilson was charged with child abuse or neglect and released on $5,000 bond.
