Pair nabbed for drugs, paraphernalia

Two women from Kentucky and the Tazewell area are facing multiple counts of drug and paraphernalia charges after police initially responded to a call of a reckless driver Sunday along Interstate 75 North.

Stopping a vehicle for going 72 mph in a 65 zone, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jimmy Yoakum found the driver, Vicky Lynn Grew, 54, Tazewell, had a revoked license for driving under the influence, and she told police she was renting the vehicle.

Yoakum asked for identification from the other passengers in the vehicle, which included Sarah Lynn Moore, 26, Middlesboro, Ky. Yoakum and another deputy on the scene saw occupants in the vehicle exchange money, according to the arrest report.

During a search of the vehicle, police found aluminum foil wrappers in the car and a small bag with a brown substance in it. Moore told deputies the bag belonged to her and that it contained heroin, Yoakum wrote. Deputies then asked Moore if she had anything illegal, and she said she did not. Also during the search, police found additional drug paraphernalia and powdered substances that belonged to Moore, according to Yoakum. A spoon and two syringes were found in Grew’s purse.

After Moore was transported to Loudon County Jail, deputies found 40 capsules of heroin weighing about 10 grams in a body cavity search. Moore was also in possession of $400, according to the arrest report.

Moore was charged with manufacture/sell/delivery of a Schedule I substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, contraband in a penal institution and manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance and held on $74,000 bond.

Grew was charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia and held on $4,000 bond.
