One Man And A Truck

At long last, the Loudon County School Board has taken the first steps to address maintenance issues for the board's nine facilities. The board voted at it's last meeting to create the maintenance position. The vote included having the building and maintenance committee to developed a job description and pay scale for the position. That process is expected to a couple of months.

The board has long been criticized for failing to provide appropriate daily maintenance for the schools leading many times to costly repairs. Currently the school system must depend entirely on the county maintenance. Unfortunately, the county maintenance department is already stretched thin taking care of all the county facilities.

The plan is to hire one maintenance man and provide him with a work truck equipped with the necessary tools to address the general day to day maintenance issues of the schools. The old saying might be appropriate, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
