November Petition Update

Looks like the city council races in both Loudon and Lenoir City will get interesting in the November election.

For the first time, Loudon will split their council seats into two years and four year terms. currently, all four seats are on the ballot at the same time in the election. After this election, half the council seats will be on the ballot every two years.

So far, in Loudon, five candidates have picked up petitions to run for the two, four year seats. Only two have picked up for the two, two year seats. Three of the candidates are not incumbents. Even though he had said he wouldn't be running for a seat, Admiral Webster, has picked up petitions for both a four and two year seat. Webster was appointed to the seat after the resignation of Tim Brewster. Ultimately, he can only run for one.

So far, only the incumbent mayor has picked up a qualifying petition for the mayor's seat.

In Lenoir City, three of the council seats will be on the ballot. Two incumbents and two challengers have picked up qualifying petitions. So far, incumbent Lenoir City councilman, James Brandon, is the only candidate who has returned his petition and qualified. Will definitely be reviewing Mr. Brandon's promises and voting record from and since he was elected four years ago.

No one has picked up any petitions from Greenback yet.

All the city elections are non partisan, meaning the candidates do not run on party affiliation, R or D. In Loudon, the top two vote getters win and in Lenoir City it's the top three. In Greenback, it's the top four.

I'll look closer at all the candidates and their voting records a little later. It's important that voters know who they're voting for .
