No Tax Increase

After several weeks of meetings, the Loudon County commission budget committee will soon present their recommended 2019-2020 budget proposal to the full commission. The nearly eighty million dollar budget does not propose any property tax increase. It does include a 2% across the board raise for all employees, school board funding, the construction of a new Courthouse Annex building to replace the old courthouse and rebuilding the old courthouse for preservation and community events.

The only yet, unresolved portion of the budget is with sheriff Tim Guider. Guider's original request  was for 42 new, additional employees for the sheriff department and the jail. The budget committee met with Guider and his adviser, Jim Hart of CTAS last week to work out the details. Guider has reduced his request to 21 new, additional employees. The budget committee has recommended 10 new, additional employees for the 2019-2020 budget with consideration of additional employees in the next fiscal budget in 2020-2021. The new jail isn't expected to open till January 2020 which is half way through the 2019-2020 fiscal budget.

The budget committee will present their recommendation to the full commission on May 29th with the hope to pass the new budget June 24th.
