No Rockin' the Docks in Lenoir City on Memorial Day weekend

LENOIR CITY (WATE) - Due to a decrease in sponsor money for events, Lenoir City will not hold its Rockin' The Docks event on Memorial Day weekend, an official said Tuesday.

Normally, the Memorial Day weekend event would attract 10,000 people. Steve Harrelson, Parks & Recreation Director, said they were not able to get the needed sponsorships for it this year.

Since this is the tenth year of Rockin' the Docks organizers decided to focus on the Independence day celebration. But, Harrelson says the Memorial Day event isn't gone for good. "Since the word is getting out that we're not going to have it Memorial Day weekend, we've already had calls from several business owners that have participated over the years. They're already ready to step up, hopefully, to help bring us in some more money for next year."

The all day event will go on as usual on Saturday, July 3 at Lenoir City Park. Live music will start at 4:00 p.m. However, the line-up of bands hasn't been announced yet. The event will end with a large, choreographed fireworks show at 10:00 p.m.

Harrelson says they're expecting 25,000 to 30,000 people to watch the fireworks for the largest July event they've ever held.
