National Veterans of Foreign Wars presents awards to two in Loudon County

LOUDON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) - National Veterans of Foreign Wars is recognizing educators who instill a sense of national pride in students. These are teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism.

Tellico Village VFW Post 12135 selected Anne Talmont of the Lenoir City Elementary School to be its Teacher of the Year.

Talmont is currently the media specialist at LCES. Once selected by VFW Post 12135 as its winner, Talmont’s selection went on to compete for Teacher of the Year throughout VFW District 2, state of Tennessee.

Another award was also given to Ed Navarro, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam. Navarro was recognized for his decade of service to area veterans.

Navarro retired from his position as Loudon County Veterans Service Officer in January, and was replaced by U.S. Navy veteran Al Wagner, who served in the Middle East.

Navarro received a custom-engraved plaque from Tellico Village VFW commander Tony Newton.
