MUD No More

The final nail in the Martel Utility District coffin was hammered in Tuesday. MUD board members and LCUB representatives met to sign the documents that will transfer MUD to LCUB.

LCUB General Manager, Shannon Littleton, attorney Bud Gilbert were there representing LCUB. MUD board members Greg Reed, Mark White, and John Morton along with MUD employees Gayle Matlock and Larry Butler attended along with two citizens.

The short explanation of the agreement is, two members of the MUD Board, Reed and White, will serve as an advisory board for the MUD service area for nine years and will receive certain LCUB benefits during that time. Mr. Butler will go to work for LCUB and in the original documents, Ms. Matlock will receive one year of her salary as a severance package.

MUD water customers rates are expected to go down by 3%.

The last part of the puzzle will be for county mayor, Buddy Bradshaw, to hold a "public necessity" meeting as required by law. That meeting will be on July 23rd. MUD and LCUB are expected to sign the final documents on July 31st.

MUD has been in business since 1962 and currently has around 1,900 water customers and about 400 sewer customers.
