Motel dispute ends in assault arrest

A Kentucky man was arrested Sunday for aggravated assault after becoming violent following cheating allegations.
Lenoir City Police Officer Zack Parmer responded to a Lenoir City motel in regards to someone screaming. After knocking at the reported room, Darrell Thomas Morgan, 38, from Owensboro, Ky, responded.

Parmer wrote in his report that Morgan was “very fidgety, agitated (and) had claw marks on his necks.” Before any questions could be asked, Morgan told Parmer the screaming was coming from the next room and immediately shut the door.

Parmer could hear a female voice saying “please let me go” and knocked a second time. When Morgan came back, Parmer spotted a woman sitting on the floor and crying in a protective fetal position. Parmer told Morgan to step outside and he was immediately detained.

Parmer spoke to the woman, who was visibly shaken, had a red neck and burst blood vessels around her throat. She told Parmer she just wanted to go home.
The woman told law enforcement officers she had confronted Morgan about a text message on his phone that led her to believe he was cheating, and Morgan reacted by strangling her to the point she could no longer breathe. He then locked her in the bathroom, refused to let her out despite repeated pleas and threatened to drown her in the bathtub.

When asked for his side of the story, Morgan declined to answer but said the claw marks on his neck were from an altercation with another man near the front of the motel. Officers asked front desk employees if they had seen any such incident, and they said they had not.

When Morgan’s driver’s license was run through dispatch, it came back with a full extradition warrant out of Indiana for violation of probation on a felony domestic assault charge.

Morgan was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and fugitive from justice and held without bond.
