Merit Board To Hear Shirk Appeal

The Loudon County Sheriff's Merit Board will hear the appeal of recently fired sheriff's deputy, Captain Bill Shirk. The board, members Commissioner Don Miller, Bob Frankie and Wayne Gardin will hear the appeal on November 29th, 1:00 pm at the Loudon County Court House Annex.

Most sheriff's office employees who receive disciplinary action or termination from the sheriff, have the right of appeal to the merit board. The board can uphold the sheriff's decision or reverse it.

Captain Shirk was dismissed July 6th by Sheriff Tim Guider for allegedly removing documents from his office. Shirk stated that the documents he removed were only requisition forms for supplies that he took home with him to work on after hours. Mr. Shirk will be represented by Knoxville attorney Herb Moncier.

Captain Shirk was fired by Sheriff Guider about two years ago and was ultimately reinstated.
