McNabb Hearing Today

The lawsuit brought by former Lenoir City, Robin McNabb, challenging recently elected Lenoir City judge, Greg Harrison's, eligibility to hold the office will be heard today, 9/12.

McNabb's position has been that it is a violation of the state constitution for a nonresident of the city to be allowed to run for the position. The city passed an ordinance back in 2021 that supposedly allows a nonresident to run for the city judge position. The case will hinge on which supersedes, a city ordinance or the state constitution.

Ms. McNabb is pursuing the case on her own time and funding. She has nothing to gain from the suit at this point. In fact, I'm sure it would have been much easier for her to just let the matter go. However, she has taken the principled position that what the city did was wrong and she's standing for what she believes is right not just for herself but for all city residents.

Guess we can understand a little better now why mayor Aikens didn't like her and wanted her off the judge's bench.
