A Maryville man was killed Monday night when his car left a roadway in Loudon County and struck a tree.

Christopher J. Smiley, 21, was driving a 1996 Honda Accord northbound on state Highway 95 in Greenback when he crashed, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Samuel Holcomb.

Smiley was driving at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve near the intersection of Tennessee Avenue about 10:40 p.m., Holcomb wrote in a report.

The Honda veered off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Smiley was wearing a safety belt. Routine alcohol and drug tests were requested.
