Man wrecks in high-speed chase

A Lenoir City man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement noticed a vehicle traveling at high speeds before entering into a high-speed pursuit.

Observing a white Saturn car speeding on Johnson Drive, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cody Fritts attempted to catch up with the vehicle and turned on his emergency equipment. The car accelerated and ran a posted Stop sign at the intersection of Johnson Drive and Browder Hollow Road, traveling at 80-90 miles per hour.

“At the intersection of Browder Hollow and Highway 11 the vehicle ran the posted stop sign turning on Highway 11 and continuing to flee at a high rate of speed,” LCSO Corrections Officer Billy Purdy wrote in his report. “The vehicle passed multiple vehicles in a Double Yellow no passing zone. The vehicle then turned on to Browder School Road and continued to evade before wrecking near the intersection of Browder School Road and Galyon Road.”

The driver was identified to be Joshua Lee Thompson, 24. A female passenger was transported by Emergency Medical Services Air to the University of Tennessee Medical Services. It was later found Thompson was driving on a suspended license and had two warrants out of Loudon County.
Thompson was charged with three counts evading arrest, three counts driving on a revoked/suspended license, two counts improper passing, failure to stop at Stop sign, reckless endangerment, two counts violation of probation and traffic control device and held on $63,000 bond.

Observing a red 2006 Chevrolet Silverado fail to come to a complete stop at Stop sign at Rudd Road and Highway 95, LCSO Inv. Jamie Ketner stopped the vehicle in a parking lot in Greenback. The driver and passenger were identified as Keith Mitchel Bundy, 47, and Chance Alan Burnette, 19. Bundy told Ketner he was a convicted felon for a second-degree murder charge in 1993. Ketner asked Bundy if there were any firearms in the vehicle and was told a Smith and Wesson 40 caliber belonged to him and a 12-gauge shotgun and Ruger 10/22 belonged to Burnette. Bundy also told Ketner a marijuana pipe was located inside his car.

“Mr. Bundy did retrieve the pipe and gave me verbal consent to search his vehicle and the firearms were located in the back seat and the Smith/Wesson was loaded,” Ketner wrote in his report. “Mr. Burnette also gave me approximately one gram of marijuana that was in his pocket. Mr. Bundy and Mr. Burnette also stated that there was more firearms in his house.”

Law enforcement went to Bundy’s home on the 400 block of Rudd Road, where they found in plain view “several” marijuana cigarettes a pipe on the kitchen table.
