Man faces multiple charges after hit-and-run

An Eidson man was taken to Loudon County Jail over the weekend on DUI and drug paraphernalia charges after being involved in a collision along U.S. Highway 321.

Dispatched to a call of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Highways 321 and 444, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Charles Huskin spoke with the driver, Christopher Jerome Lyons, 24, Eidson, who was stopped at Tellico Saddle dam on Highway 444. When questioned by deputies, Lyons initially denied being involved in a wreck on Highway 321 and said he was just changing a flat tire.

Huskin noticed damage to the left side of Lyons’ vehicle.

Later while speaking with officers, Lyons eventually said that another driver ran into him on the highway, and because his license was revoked for a previous driving under the influence charge, he “got scared and ran,” according to Huskin’s report.

After Sgt. Jerramie Bowen arrived on the scene, deputies searched Lyons’ vehicle and found a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and multiple unopened Suboxone packets, according to the arrest report. Lyons performed poorly on field sobriety tests and displayed signs of intoxication.
Lyons was charged with driving under the influence-third offense, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession and released on $10,000 bond.

Dispatched to the call of a person being choked in the 100 block of Shaw Ferry Lane, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ronnie Reagan found a man and woman standing on the lawn when he arrived. Armstrong, who had blood and scratches on his face, according to Reagan, told deputies that he and his wife had been in an argument about him leaving the home for the night. He said his wife didn’t want him to leave, and the couple got into an argument in a vehicle, according to the arrest report. Armstrong said the woman slammed the truck door, and when he approached her, she pushed him, according to Reagan’s report. He then grabbed her and threw her to the ground, according to the report. The woman told deputies that Armstrong had grabbed her by the neck, choked her and threw her to the ground. Deputies observed red marks on the woman’s neck and marks and scratches on other parts of her body. Before the assault while the couple was arguing in the car, Armstrong “accelerated” the car and drove the vehicle around the yard with his wife and three children inside, “placing them in danger of injury or death,” Reagan wrote.

Michael Watkins had already arrived on the scene. Justice told officers that he and his girlfriend were arguing as they were traveling along Highway 321, and just before the couple got to Highway 70, the woman removed the keys and exited the vehicle. Justice said he got into the driver’s seat to move the vehicle off the roadway when the woman came around to the passenger side to get her belongings. Justice said he “demanded” the keys, and the woman punched the outside mirror before throwing him the keys, according to Arden’s report. Justice told officers that he drove to the right shoulder of the highway, but did not realize the woman was being dragged by the vehicle. Police spoke with the woman, who confirmed details of the incident, but would not provide a statement.
