Lowell Russell Victorious in Bid for District 21 Tennessee House Seat

Conservative former state trooper thanks opponents, credits strong conservative message

Vonore, Tennessee -- Lowell Russell, a conservative former Tennessee Highway Patrol sergeant, won a convincing victory in his bid for the Republican nomination in House District 21. Russell’s grassroots campaign garnered 45% in a three-way race, defeating opponents Doyle Arp and Lenoir City Mayor Tony Aikens.

“I am extremely grateful to the voters of this district allowing me to represent them as their Republican nominee,” said Russell. “This was a strong grassroots campaign. It wasn’t about me. It was about a team of motivated individuals passionate about a cause. I’d like to thank everyone who assisted in this effort and everyone who gave me the honor of their vote.”

A veteran law enforcement officer, Lowell Russell’s career in the Tennessee Highway Patrol was cut short in 2012 when he was injured in the line of duty. His previous law enforcement experience included a tenure as a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy. His book, Trial by Fire: The True Story of Tennessee State Trooper Sgt. Lowell Russell, tells the full story of his experience as a patrolman and his recovery from injuries sustained in the line of duty. A committed conservative, Russell ran a strong pro-life, pro-second amendment, and low tax platform.

“I am tremendously energized by this victory. But, I am taking nothing for granted. There is still a general election campaign to run and I plan on taking my conservative message directly to the people of Loudon and Monroe counties,” Russell stated.

Russell also had a word of thanks to his opponents.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to run against two great men for whom I have tremendous respect,” Russell said. “Tony Aikens has served Lenoir City well as mayor and Doyle Arp is a great pillar of this community. I believe their involvement in this race made me a better candidate. I will be counting on them for counsel as I embark on this general election campaign.”

Russell faces Democratic nominee Laura Miller in the general election in November.
