Loudon woman faces arson charge

A Loudon woman is facing an arson charge after law enforcement responded to a call of a structure fire Saturday in the 13000 block of Vonore Road.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Rondel Branam was told by dispatch that Capt. Jeff Russell was at a residence with an active fire. Rondel saw a large pile of household trash on fire against the front porch of the residence. He also saw Shannon Elaine Patterson, 42, standing in the driveway and making no attempt to extinguish the flames.

“Members of Loudon County Fire Rescue did arrive on scene and extinguished the flames with the aid of the next door neighbors’ water hose,” Branam wrote in a report. “Ms. Patterson did state to this officer that the wind shifted and caught the porch on fire by accident. After further check of the property, I did see approximately three piles of trash that had been burned behind the residence. These piles were a safe distance away from the residence when burned.”

Branam noticed smoke coming from an eve of the residence and when he entered the structure he found another pile of household garbage in the kitchen floor. Inside the bathroom, Branam saw evidence the shower curtain had been burned off the rod.

“In the kitchen of the residence I did find an outlet that had been removed and wires had been wrapped with paper towels and pushed back in the wall,” Branam wrote in a report.

Patterson was charged with arson and held on $15,000 bond.
