Loudon man charged in vehicle fatality

A Loudon driver was charged with vehicular homicide Friday after a single-car crash resulted in the death of one of his passengers.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Alexander Evans was dispatched around 3 a.m. to Town Creek Road, where a vehicle had run off the roadway while negotiating a curve and stuck a tree. Evans was told by officers at the scene that at least two individuals had fled on foot. A 21-year old man was found dead in the back seat.

While searching the scene, Evans noticed a strong odor of alcohol. A box of beer was in the back seat.

During the investigation, the car’s four other occupants emerged from a wooded area with multiple injuries and were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. One had a broken right leg and cut forehead, while two had internal bruising and small lacerations.

The four men were questioned by Blount County officers at the hospital. They admitted they had been drinking, had gone to buy more beer and wrecked on their way to a Lenoir City laundromat. Three of the men named Rodin Cifuentes, 23, as the driver.
Upon further questioning, Cifuentes admitted drinking prior to driving and said he did not have a license. Cifuentes had a strong oder of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. He was unable to perform a standardized field sobriety test due to injuries.
Cifuentes was charged with driver’s license, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of accident with death/injury, three counts of vehicular assault and vehicular homicide and held without bond.
