Loudon man arraigned in Knoxville stabbing death

KNOXVILLE - A Jan. 25 trial date has been set for a Loudon man charged with stabbing another man to death in Knoxville last year.

Dewayne Lee Thaxton, 30, was arraigned today in Knox County Criminal Court on a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Elmer Durham. Thaxton remains jailed under $200,000 bond.

Durham, 41, died of multiple stab wounds shortly after police officers discovered him lying wounded in the 400 block of McConnell Street. According to court documents, a witness told police that Durham had earlier been in an altercation with Thaxton and another man.
