Loudon couple arrested with heroin, pills

A Loudon couple was arrested June 15 after a routine stop for a seatbelt violation uncovered drugs.

Lenoir City Police Officer Riley Miller was patrolling near Town Creek Parkway when he noticed a car pass with the front passenger not wearing a seatbelt. As he approached the vehicle, he also discovered the registration had expired two months ago.

While speaking with the driver, Nathan Shane Watts, 35, and passenger, Lindsey Ann Watts, 40, Miller noticed the smell of burnt marijuana.

Miller asked Lindsey to step out of the vehicle to speak with her about the seatbelt citation. Due to the odor of marijuana, he also had Nathan exit the car and asked him to empty his pockets. Miller found a glass pipe and five hypodermic needles

The officer then searched the vehicle and found two small baggies of heroin, two pill bottles containing gabapentin, four cut straws, a glass pipe and a marijuana pipe.

Nathan said the heroin belonged to him, while both claimed possession of the gabapentin in separate interviews. Lindsey was charged with manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on $3,500 bond.

Nathan was charged with manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule I substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on revoked/suspended license and released on $7,000 bond.
