Location, Location 6

At last Monday's county commission, special called meeting, commissioners took the first concrete step to build a new Annex/Criminal Justice building. Commissioners are now considering a much smaller facility on the old courthouse grounds and to reutilize the old courthouse when it is rebuilt.

Commission voted 6-2 to pay MBI Architects, $35,000.00, to draw plans for the new building. Myself and commissioner Harold Duff were the two no votes preferring rather to locate the new building at the Justice Center.

By placing the old courthouse back in service, the new Annex/Criminal Justice building would not need to be nearly as large and should cost millions less to build. The new facility would likely house Circuit and Criminal courts and the old courthouse could be used for Chancery court.

We're still a long way from any final decision and there's always the possibility that the new, smaller Annex/Criminal Justice building could be built at the Justice Center. We'll know more when we get the plans from the Architects.
