Local man faces animal cruelty charges

A Lenoir City man is facing aggravated animal cruelty charges after law enforcement found him with a dead cat inside a garbage bag.

Responding to a call, Lenoir City Police Officer Jamie Whitt talked with a woman who said she saw her neighbor, identified as Andrew Joseph Jenkins, 34, pick up a black and white cat and take it inside his building. Jenkins asked a girl to bring him a plastic bag, and he was then spotted bringing the dead animal inside the bag out to his blue Ford Explorer.

Jenkins left toward Browder School Road with the dead cat in a garbage bag behind the driver’s side seat. “When asked how he killed it he stated that he relinquished it from breathing,” Whitt wrote. “He stated that the cat would come on his property and bother his kids.”

Jenkins was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and released on $5,000 bond.

Woman charged with domestic violence

Responding to a call on the 200 block of Pike Street for a possible domestic violence situation, Lenoir City Police Officer Collin Kirkpatrick talked with a man and Elizabeth Ann Turnier, 32, Lenoir City.

The man said he and Turnier had been drinking all night, and eventually the two got into a verbal argument and he went to his bedroom, according to the report. Turnier charged into the bedroom and accused the man of cheating on her, Kirkpatrick wrote.

“He described her swinging open handed multiple times toward him,” Kirkpatrick wrote. “He stated he pushed her away and told her to go chill out.”
Turnier then went outside to smoke a cigarette and the man locked her out on the porch. The man was sitting on the couch when he noticed an object fly through the window into the house.

“He then heard a glass bottle break outside,” Kirkpatrick wrote. “When he opened the door, the victim observed the offender sitting on the front porch with a piece of the broken glass bottle held to her left inside wrist.” At that point, the man called authorities. The man had scratch marks on his face, bruising and scratching on his neck and a single scratch on his left wrist, according to the report.

Turnier was charged with domestic assault-misdemeanor and released on $1,000 bond.
