Lenoir City woman charged with TennCare fraud

 

Debra Charleda Buchanan (source: Loudon County Sheriff's Office)LENOIR CITY (WATE) - A Lenoir City woman is charged with using TennCare to pay for a fake prescription for a painkiller.

Debra Charleda Buchanan, 55, is charged with one count of TennCare fraud and one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

Investigators say Buchanan obtained a prescription from a local pharmacy for the painkiller Hydrocodone and used TennCare to pay for it.

TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to two years in prison, and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud is a Class D felony, punishable by two to four years in prison.
