Lenoir City man facing marijuana charge

A Lenoir City teen is facing a drug charge after law enforcement found his vehicle parked Sunday on the shoulder of Old Highway 95.

Lenoir City Police Officer Caleb Green saw a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road near a thrift store where several thefts had occurred within a few days. Green met the vehicle’s driver, Brandon S. Asbury, 18, who appeared nervous. Green noted he smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

“I asked Mr. Asbury if he had any marijuana inside the vehicle (and) he stated there was a large quantity of marijuana in the back seat of the vehicle that did not belong to him,” Green wrote in the report.

After Asbury was detained, he claimed there was an ounce of marijuana inside the vehicle. A search found a plastic sandwich bag with 55 grams of a green leafy substance underneath the driver seat near the floorboard. Green also recovered a set of digital scales in the glove compartment with a green leafy substance residue on them.

Asbury was charged with manufacture, sell, delivery or resale of a Schedule VI substance and released on $5,000 bond.
