LCSO: Negligence led to large wildfire near county lines

LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) – The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office on Monday said multiple agencies worked to battle a wildfire that “was the result of someone’s negligence.”

According to a video posted on LCSO’s Facebook page, the brush fire or wildfire occurred in the area off of Martel Road near the Loudon and Knox county lines.

As of 6 p.m. the fire was out.

No homes were in danger and no injuries were reported.

The family that owns the property telling WATE 6 On Your Side that a teenager’s bonfire from overnight apparently was not fully extinguished and flared up this afternoon.

The sheriff’s office is using the fire as an example of why burn permits are needed when the area faces dry conditions.

Loudon County Fire and Rescue and Rural Metro Fire – Knox County fought the fire.
