There was an unexpected 30-minute lay-off in the second half of Tuesday night’s soccer game between Lenoir City and Bearden at Lenoir City.

With 27:47 left in the game, Lenoir City senior defender Corey Johnson suffered a head injury that required emergency medical response.

Occurring in front of the LCHS net, Bearden senior forward Ryan Campbell was among a handful of players “going up for the ball. His keeper [Landon Monday] clipped him in the back of the head with an elbow.”

BHS head coach Eric Turner said Johnson “was knocked out cold, but he came around after a while.” Turner added that Rural Metro Ambulance responders “seemed to indicate he’d be O-K.” Johnson was carted off on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital. Lenoir City Fire Department also responded.
