Juveniles charged in false bomb threat
News Herald

Two juveniles are being held responsible for filing a false bomb threat at Greenback School Wednesday morning, according to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.

The juveniles — a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old female — allegedly “stole a cellular phone from a teacher’s classroom and collectively placed a bomb threat to the front office of the school” around 11:30, as was noted in a release from authorities.  The students then replaced the phone in the classroom from which it was taken.

Authorities said that more than 700 students were evacuated following the threat, which sparked an investigation utilizing the Greenback Fire and Rescue Squad, the Knox County Bomb Squad and Rural/Metro Emergency Services along with the sheriff’s office and the school’s staff.

Though “no threat was found at the school,” classes were interrupted for several hours, authorities said.

Investigator Jason Smith arrested the duo, charging the juveniles with felony filing of a false report.
