Is She In Or Out 5
She "Lawyered Up"

Back on August 5th, county commission voted to ask District Attorney, Russell Johnson, to look into the issue of 2nd district commissioner, Julia Hurley's move out of her elected district. Johnson agreed to investigate.

When asked about the status of the ongoing investigation into the residency status of Loudon County Commissioner Julia Hurley, District Attorney Russell Johnson advised that Hurley had essentially ‘lawyered up’ when questioned at her new home by a TBI Agent and a DA Office investigator. Johnson further stated that he has been in contact with attorney T. Scott Jones and that they intend to talk about Hurley and the investigation this week.

There's no doubt that Ms. Hurley has moved out of her district which would automatically vacate her commission seat.  In July, commissioners tried to ask Ms. Hurley about her residency status. However, Hurley refused to even talk to commissioners about the situation. Now it appears she has hired an attorney? Certainly brings into question her intent all along.

Commissioner Hurley's actions are troubling to say the least. If she wants to live somewhere other than her elected district, she can but she can't continue to represent her former district. Ms. Hurley seems to be a very busy real estate agent with other businesses. She has missed more commission meetings in her first year on commission than I've missed in sixteen years as an elected official. She has missed more workshops than commission meetings and those she does attend, she usually leaves early before the meeting is over. Yet she still takes her tax payer funded stipend and insurance benefits. It's obvious her interest in serving on commission is low and that's not fair to her constituents.

We can only wait on the district attorney to come to conclusion with his investigation now.
